About the Area

Punta Gorda Airport (PGD) is located on the southwest coast of Florida, specifically in Charlotte County, Florida. It is about 3 miles east of Punta Gorda, just a few ways off the I-75. The airport is situated between Ft. Myers and Sarasota and the Charlotte County Airport Authority is responsible for its operations.

The PGD is considered an important transportation and economic hub in the region. It’s not only a gateway to over 45 destinations, but also provides hundreds of jobs and a wide range of opportunities for businesses.

Charlotte County’s total area is approximately 850 square miles and its county seat is Punta Gorda. The county is home to the Charlotte Harbor Estuary, which is one of the most productive natural preserves found in Florida.

Punta Gorda, meanwhile, has a population of around 20,000 people and the only incorporated municipality you can find in the county. Here you will find several historic sites worth visiting if you have a long layover in the area. These include the Villa Blanca, the H.W. Smith Building, the Clarence L. Babcock House, and the Punta Gorda Atlantic Coast Line Depot. All of these landmarks are included in the National Register of Historic Places of the US.

Punta Gorda Airport is Charlotte County’s gateway to more than 45 destinations in the United States, including New York, Ohio, Indiana, and Kentucky. The airport encompasses 1,900+ acres of land and has three runways made of asphalt. A new terminal was built in 2007 to serve the needs of more than 1.5 million passengers each year.

PGD has been hosting the Florida International Air Show for 35 years now. The annual event sees hundreds of volunteers and amazing demonstrations conducted by military teams, such as the US Navy and the US Air Force. The show is enjoyed by hundreds of locals and visitors and the proceeds are donated to charities.

Short-term and long-term parking services are available at the airport. Across the parking spaces are the security checkpoint areas. On the right side of the security queue is the ticketing lobby while the concession shop is located on the left side of the security checkpoint, provided that you are facing the entrance.

Near the concessions are several toilets and further to the left side of the main terminal is the baggage claim area, vending machines, and an ATM. After passing through the security area, you will be at the departures waiting room. This is a regular waiting area and not a first-class lounge. More concessions and toilets can be found here. Towards the back are Gates 1 to 7.

If you love books and art, the Punta Gorda Airport has got you covered. Head to the Bailey Terminal near the baggage claim area to find the Flybrary. You can borrow, take, or trade books for free and enjoy other types of reading materials. To enjoy some beautiful art, there are exhibitions in the hallway near the ticketing station. These pieces were created by local artists and new works are regularly put on display.

There are no first-class facilities inside PGD but the basic necessities for the comforts of travelers are provided.

Yes. Find food and cocktails at The Junction, which is just past security. Snacks, gifts, and books are also available here. Additionally, if you go near Gate 1 and 3 during busy departure times, there are food and beverage kiosks available. Vending machines, meanwhile, can be found in the ticketing and baggage claim areas.

If you are already out of the main airport area and are at the parking lot, head to the north end to find a food truck with delicious offerings. There are plenty of restaurants near the airport which are within a few minutes’ drive away. The SkyView Cafe is right next to the terminal.

No, they are not unless they are carefully carried in travel containers that are approved by the airport. Exceptions are law enforcement or service animals.

Are there car rental facilities?

There is a Car Rental Center conveniently located across the street from the Bailey Terminal. You can get to it by using the crosswalk.
